2021 NBA Draft Composite Rankings

The 2021 NBA Draft will take place this Thursday, and most draft boards/big boards are finalized or nearly so.  With that said, I present the Hoops Prospects’ 2021 NBA Draft Composite Rankings, which involved combining the draft boards of seven sources (listed below).  The scoring/ranking system was rather simple.  For each pick, a prospect received points equal to 201 minus the prospect’s ranking.  So, for example, if someone ranked Franz Wagner tenth, he’d receive 191 points from that source.  If someone ranked Wagner at No. 100, he’d receive 101 points.  If a player was unranked by a particular source, the player would receive zero points from that source.

The Sources

Going left to right on the composite chart, the sources were as follows:

  • Hoops Prospects (HP) — I have the final call on the official HP rankings, but I receive a lot of input from all of our writers.  The HP draft board goes 200 deep, which is why 201 is the baseline for the composite point formula.
  • The Athletic # 1 (Ath-JH) — This is the top 70 from John Hollinger.  These rankings were published on July 14, before the international withdrawal deadline, so four players were eliminated.
  • The Athletic # 2 (Ath-SV) — This is Sam Vecenie’s final Big Board, published on July 23.
  • CBS Sports — There is no author nor a post date, and these rankings included six international players.  However, these rankings were updated after the NCAA deadline for early entries to return to school.
  • ESPN — These rankings are up to date.
  • Sports Illustrated (SI) — These are the latest rankings from Jeremy Woo.  They were updated on July 8, and included three international players who pulled out of the draft.
  • USA Today (USA)Bryan Kalbrosky’s latest rankings were published on July 21, and go 100 deep.
